Known FixMyStreet Access Issues

Some councils block or restrict reports submitted via FixMyStreet, directing users to their own portals instead. This creates data gaps in pothole reporting coverage. As of mid-2025, mySociety estimates around 10 councils have some form of restriction.

Hard Blocks

  • East Riding of Yorkshire Long-standing block, FixMyStreet shows a "Bad News" banner
  • Somerset Council Dropped FixMyStreet in June 2025
  • Carmarthenshire Admin refusal, directs users to own portal
  • Redbridge Pushes users to "Love Clean Streets"

Soft Blocks (High Friction)

  • Ealing Requires council-specific account
  • Newham Directs to "Love Newham" app

The March 2025 DfT pothole transparency mandate may be increasing council resistance — councils want reports in their own systems to ensure funding data accuracy.
